The somewhat random nature of the items makes me think these were the belongings of a militaria collector rather than a vet. Perhaps he passed away and no one in the family thought these could be valuable...or a divorce/separation and the enraged ex was throwing out hubby's prized possessions. Who knows? Just thank God you found them before it all ended up in the landfill!

I just stopped by the house and knocked on the door. The lady who came to the door was very nice until I inquired about the items she threw away. She wanted to know why I wanted such evil things. She told me the things belonged to her ex and she just found them and told me I should have left them in the trash. Then she excused her self and returned with a copy of the Watchtower for me to read. After much debate she agreed to give me the rest of the stuff she still has in the next few days. I offered to give her some money for the items, but she told me it was a sin to take money from evil. Then she told me to go to church!

Actually when she handed me the pamphlet all I could think of was that old saying

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Excellent finds. In my opinion, trash and garage sale finds are the best and most exciting in our hobby. They are scary though, to think how close these items and ones like them come to ending up in the landfill. Be sure to post the visor cap in the Cloth Headgear forum so those guys can take a look at it.

It's best not to think about all the items like this have been thrown away and there haven't been guys like us there to find and save them.

This is what is going to happen to my "treasures" when I croak; out to the trash can.

Like toxic waste, militaria is far too evil to merely be put out in the garbage, where it might poison the earth itself. It needs to be disposed of by an experienced specialist who know how to handle it properly.

Those items are about as evil as a new born kitten. Great find, the only evil thing is her, throwing out such histoial items. If we do not learn from history then we will be doomed to repeat it. Which is what she wants to see happen. This reminds me of a collcetor who found a DAK paratrooper helmet in a trash dump. The helmet even still had all the orginal parts.

Congratulations on the finds, reminds me of a close call that I had several years ago. I stopped over at my parents house after work one day and just happened to need something from the cellar. I passed by where the trash cans were stored until collection day and saw several of my helmets sitting in one of them. Learned real fast that day that one person's treasure is another's trash.
