LARGE Japanese Pariscope w/ Tripod & Cases

Hey guys:

I just got this from an antique picker pal - The condition is awesome as you will see... the paint is the color seen on Japanese helmets and is pretty close to 100% all there.

First off, what was it for? The optics are still pretty good and there are numbers and lines you can see on the field of view.

The cases are great and the canvas one has a few markings, that is all I can find on either. The big leather case is VERY well made and it has a couple of empty pockets and a loose piece of wood that has a round dug out area, so I'm' sure it could be figured out where it goes. One interior strap (I'm pointing at it) is loose in one spot.

Over all, a really nice rig but before I let it go, I'd like to know what it is and how "rare" it is.

Nice piece of field gear. Cases for both.

They are Artillery battery commanders scopes. There were a couple of different types of these.
The scopes themselves are not rare, but to find a set complete with all cases and tripod is quite difficult, especially in nice condition.
