    Japanese slings

    Hi
Can anyone tell me an easy way to distinguish between a type 30 or 38 and a type 99 rifle sling ? I went to the sling website and it said that 99 slings are
1 3/8" by 39 1/4" and that earlier slings are 1 1/8" by 43". I have quite a few rifles that have slings but they don't seem to follow the rules, especially the type 99s.
PS The slings on my rifles are definately Japanese. Many are Kanji marked.
    Thanks Joe T

As a rule type 99 slings are wider & have thicker buckles which are often painted. Type 30 - 38 used similar slings which were narrower & had aluminum (type 30), brass or steel small buckles. On ALL Japanese slings the buckles were NEVER permanantly sewn onto the slings.

Jareth, didin't we sort of come to a conclusion that the aluminum buckle and stud slings were for the Murata T-22 ?

Tak you are correct. My mistake. Regarding type 30 - 38 slings buckles are brass or steel & NOT aluminum as found on some type 22 slings.
