    Wakizashi

Hello once again to the collectors of WA!

These photos here are of my first Japanese sword. Apparently a vet bring back, yea it's seen better days, and since I'm selling it off to help fund a CYQ
P.38, I'm afraid this one is now taking up some space . Although not a great blade, probably junk in others opinions, it helped start me on my road of studying Nihonto and pass on info to others!

In these photos, the flash usually makes the blade look worse than it is, but I used it to show the hamon is still there, clear as day, albeit they're right about saying it's hard to photograph! So I'm asking, what's y'alls oopinion on this and a good price range?

Looking forward to hearing your answers!

    Lev

I must concur that this is not much of a sword. It has been poorly shortened which produces a very poor shape. some one has also removed the patina from the nakago. The pictures are not the best but the blade looks like a kazuchimono or mass produced blade.

I dont think it was so much as removing the patina as it was a broken katana, then used as a wak.

I agree with Mr. Coleman and Budo. I doubt very seriously that you will get enough for a P.38. Unfortunately it is what it is, a broken katana.

Well, actually, I wasn't planning on this as being able to trade for a P.38 at the same proce, God no! I was just gonna sell this at a cheap price to someone who wants a piece to either mess around with or to practice proper care until they can afford a better one.

I never heard of the term "mass-produced swords" used during the era of the samurai, but now I realize how they were able to produce so many swords, albeit some are not works of art, such as this one.

Any of y'all know when this blade may have been reshaped to form a wakizashi? I've seen some, but even those have the respected orust on the nakago.

Thanks for the info, though and looking forward to future posting!
