Japanese rifle with odd bayonet??

Hello forum...

I bought this rifle and bayonet recently for $100 bucks. (plus lot's of aggravation and waking up early in the morning)

The rifle looks like it's a million years old.

The sling has some writing, which I assume is Japanese?

There are a couple odd markings on the receiver.. and a weird bayonet?

The bayonet doesn't look Japanese at all. It sorta looks like from a Spanish mauser?

BUT... it does have a mum stamped to the wooden grip, and some Japanese characters and numbers?

Did the Japanese use captured gear from other nations?

Don't know about the bayonet, looks ok though. Probably just an older bayonet (to go with the older type rifle). Try posting it separately on the bayonet page.

That is however definitely a very worn type 38 Arisaka rifle. Very cool that it still has the dust cover over the receiver too.
