Japanese Dirk...Your opinions please...

Im being offered this Dirk and was wondering if I could get some opinions...who exactly would have used this? Any any opinions at all on this one....

Naval Dirk

Thats a model 1883 Senior Petty Officers dirk. Havent seen many of those at the shows, usually you see the typical Navy dirk.

Also would anyone happen to know if the tangs were signed on these and the "going price" for one of the dirks....Thanks guys!

Most if not all were machine made blades, would think they would bring less than the Naval Officers but havent seen one so ballpark it at $450 +-

Thank you Steve...so if this is a model 1883 would this be a pre-ww1 threw ww1 use...or were these models used into ww2 and can you tell the diference?

According to Richard Fullers "Japanese Military and Civilian Swords and Dirks" it was replaced by the standard Naval Commissioned Officers model around 1914 and its listed as rare in this book so my estimate may be low.
