Opinions on Japanese RAY FLAG IJA

Im new with japanese militaria and among the few things that have been aquired recently this is one of them.

Its an Imperial Japanese army flag as the meatball is in the center.

I would like your opininons and thoughts about the dirt look to it.

My father has informed me that what some fakers do is take teabags and drain iton clothes or somthing and the clothes will appear older and dirtier, this was bought from japan and so far have gotten a few fantastic items. Also i was wondering if original ones were a one piece or if the red rays should be a sewn on.

Its looks good to me, I have never seen a rayed flag that was not printed , but I am not an expert. I have had several vet obtained flags it they look like this. But you have to watch out though.

Yea this is a good one. This size is almost always clamp dyed. The larger ones are sometimes multi piece construction. Once you have handled a few you will be able to tell the difference between a tea stained one and real age weathering not that I have seen many of these artificially aged. The real problem is post war added kanji. I think you have a nice flag there.

I agree, I think you have a nice original army flag in a good display size It never hurts to be very cautious though.

Thanks everyone,I really appreciate the info and reassurance, there are a tonnnnn of flags that I see on the web and it worries me,my father tells me stories of how in the 60s-70s japanese and german militaria were always so hard to get a hand on it,and how the us items would be like 10 dollars a helmet...well ill stop rambling, but i really appreciate your reassurances gentelman

This looks like a nice, original rayed flag. The tabs, ties, edge stitching, impressed printing and material all appear to be period done. Mike
