That is a nice Japanese Army officer's cap. NCO and enlisted caps were the same and are different from this.
All Officer caps were privately purchased and have many variations. Yours has had the original lining and sweatband removed and replaced with a field made cloth lining. Perhaps the original was too badly damaged by sweat and use, hence the replacement.
The name on the side of the cap is Imai, a common Japanese family name.
