Looks fine to me. No rim cuts I can see - that's a plus. Closeup of the insignia would be nice just to be totally sure. Does the stitching from the insig. go through the cover?

Hi Robb,
The bakcing of the star looks fine but the star itself and the stitching looks a bit odd.
Hoping I am wrong.

Don't like that star. Should be yellow felt! Looks like it's leather or cardboard. Do stitches go through to interior of cover?

Very strong possibility the istar portion of the nsignia is not original to this cover. The green wool base might be alright. A lot of these covers have partially damaged or missing insignias and people have been getting better working on them in recent years. Standard material for the star is yellow wool which has a completely different appearance regardless of condition. Depends on how particular you are and the price however keep in mind, the insignia is a major focal point on all headgear.

It isn't leather. It reminds me of that stiff paper/fabric-like material that the stars on those reproduction army insignia are made of that periodically appear on Ebay. Takes well to aging and isn't noticeable unless you have a closeup pic or examine in hand.
