Hi,
Thanks again for your advice and info ,will keep it clean and oiled,one day i will have a nice older sword when funds allow,
here the tang on my other one cameras flat so iv'e scanned it ,of the same timeframe i think and even though the blade is brigter ,if you would like some blade photo let meknow

with the seki stamp it puts it even later, not sure who the smith is. looks standard showato.

The smith name is Wakai Ichizen (若井一前). Fairly common level Seki smith.

Seki Kaji Tosho



During WWII, more than 200 swordsmiths worked only at Seki province to supply qualified swords for their soldiers. Their names began to appear in Seki Tanrensho Booklet printed in 1939. Several smiths in this list worked as Rikugun Jumei Tosho (e.g. Nakata Kanehide) and produced both good and poor blades together. However, most of these seki smiths produced low grade Showato and should not be regarded as a Gendaito. The list shows their smith name and real name.

Ive had some outstanding blades in my time, Seki stamped that you would swear from the activity had been traditionally made, but a Seki stamp or Showa stamp will always signify wartime production by non traditional means,,,oil quenched or other "shortcuts" taken to speed production. Will never have the value of non stamped traditionally made blades or even wartime produced blades with lots of activity and no stamp present that might be fully traditionally made. Unless the noted authors change their minds or new info comes to light which is not likely.

Finally decided to get it polished even though it is not cost effective it looks like it should ,can anybody give me some pointers of how to photograph blades.

Looks outstanding. Well worth the expenditure if you like the outcome. It's not always about cost effectiveness.

Photographing blades is a very tough task. Particularly without professional gear. I've found that diffusing the light from the source through a light white sheet or other similar filter can take quite a bit of the glare and reflection out of the equation.

Have a look at some of the swords on Moses Becerra's site and you'll get an idea of what to try for.
