    E-bay Naval Helmet

This is the very nice Naval helmet w/cover I thought was another with the painted stripe. It does not have the stripe. It is however brush painted which we have talked about here on a previous thread. I have seen this done on several IJN helmets now. Most were sprayed. Some were either brushed or a finishing brush was used. Still a very nice helmet/cover.

    Huh

Strange that this helmet did not bring the big money that the one with questionable net brought a couple of months ago.

Kurt, your set was extremely nice! Ebay is extremely fickle! Also never use eBay as a price guide! The last one that sold so high was a one time fluke. The worsening economy certainly doesn't help.

Did anyone make a after auction deal on that one? I don't know jack but I thought maybe the helmet bage was a replacement. The whole helmet looked odd and it's one of those if you don't know what you're doing don't put your dog in the fight kinda things. I sat it out.

Kurt, my thought, based on your photos was that your insignia was an early nickel plated example? If so that would be scarce & correct for an early badged type 90 navy.

If the reserve was over 2500.00 no way I can even consider it now. I was laid off. Have a new job but it's a pay cut and I have yet to start. A year from now I will be doing ok if I cut it there.

Do you have any army netted and covered versions?

Nothing wrong with that set. If I had the cash I would take it in a heartbeat. Like was said above I also think the economy is hurting everything right now. Sorry I did not post sooner. I did not have internet for a little over a week during the move.

Ebay is definitely fickle. After over 10 years of online auctions, lots of guys have stuff now and there's HEAVY scrutinization at these prices. Like previous posts said, people are not throwing money at this stuff like several months ago. This rig has some use. If a set like this is going to sell itself, people probably need to see more detail. Photos taken in indirect morning sunlight are a quick, effective way for getting the most accurate color in a photo. This is a well used set and clear macro closeups of the back side of the cover opposite where the insignia is attached, macro closeup of the insignia, a shot of the helmet from front, sides, back, and top. A macro zoom of the material so the overall wear, age, etc on the cover can be seen. You need to let bidders know through a statement and/or pictures this set is an original unit , put together by a Japanese marine and this is how it was picked up on the battlefield - that's big with these NLF rigs and especially with a rig that has use like this. Lots of guys can't tell from general pictures and description. The helmet and cover that brought big money a few months ago was exceptionally clean so it didn't matter that the components were assembled after the war by someone. When the seller stated he'd swap in an original net, it didn't hurt the deal and actually worked to his advantage. Also, I think that helmet sold before the financial turmoil and stock market really tumbled. THere's money out there but sellers really have to work at it now. Many factors and item details influencing what an item sells for at any particular time.

Perfectly stated GFB. It is a decent set, and I believe the only reason it DIDNT sell, is due to the Economy. People are just plain scared to spend. I dont believe the set was ORIGINAL in the sense that it was "as found picked up on the battlefield", but was a collector put-together, marriage of components i.e. helmet/cover/net. Still a good set, as most of these rigs are collector put-togethers. The ones that are not, are usually one-lookers. Just my opinion. As Scott said, if I had the cash, it would be mine, as Kurts asking price is fair. Todd
