    helmet net on ebay

I'm currently the high bidder on this net.
    Does it look right?

Search the forum here on Japanese nets. There is a whole lot of discussion on them and a lot of photos. Generally it's said that the double re enforced bottom nets are bad even though they do exist as originals.

Have it looked at quik and if it is bad tell the seller to delete your bid.

I once bought a netted helmet from a vet, that also came from Saipan (Like the one Scott mentioned) that had a net with the double strands at the bottom, and appeared 1000% right and original. I know this belies the basic rule that all nets with double strands on the bottom are BAD. The net you are referring to on Ebay, looks OK to me..Uneven age/use fading, and some rust stainage..Based on the pics, IMO, it is WWII issue I wouldnt be afraid to buy it, AS LONG AS A REFUND IS OFFERED, UPON A HANDS-ON INSPECTION. Seeking original IJA & NLF Helmets w/ their original Helmet Covers & Camo nets... WWII USMC "War Trophies", and ID'ed Raider Items/Groupings

Thanks-he has a 10 day inspection period. I'd like to have this net, but as a neophyte I don't wanna screw myself over it. What would you bid top dollar for this, I'm currently the lead bidder.........

I like the wear on it. I think some were used. That being said I would say 99% of these offered are post war. You have to decide what you are willing to pay for it based on the feedback you get here. It could be but it is impossible to know for sure. Best you can hope to get on a net like this. It is a gut call for the buyer to make.

And if you are a noob like me, hands on inspection does not mean much. If you don't know what you are looking at or what to look for. helmets can be tricky.

If any of you have any aged reproductions to post photos of it might help keith.

I got outbid on it again, I'm thinking about letting it go and watching the estand and buying one from a reputable member on this site. I'd rather help a member and benefit from a legit deal than take my chances on ebay.

All right, the only way I would buy one of these is from a vet on a helmet. If you have this many questions about it now they will only multiply when you get it. Esp if you drop $225+ on it. Patience patience patience. One will eventually turn up that you do not have to question. I would only take a chance on one of these e-bay offerings if it were dirt cheap. The price you have it up to is way above what a reasonable chance to take would be imo. You are closing in on the price of a no question good net. Why not put that cash towards a nice one when it comes up? The best advice ever given to me was "Be patient and buy smart". Words to live buy (by).
