Brushed on or sprayed on?

Guys,

I have been asking questions about Japanese helmets from sellers on sites and ebay.
What's the deal with the brushed on paint I am seeing? I was told they were sprayed in the factory. Does this mean anything brushed was done post war or were field repaints by brush common?

You'll find helmets with sprayed on as well as brushed on paint. From my experience I see early, brass badged navy helmets most commonly sprayed. With that said there really isn't a "norm" regarding painted finishes. Field repaints are common on both army & navy helmets. This might be confusing to you now but after handling enough Japanese helmets you will easily spot original paint from post war.
