Well that medal looked Chinese but everything else looked Japanese so I was confused. Turns out it's a young picture of chinese leader Chiang Kai Shek. Does anyone here read chinese?. wondering if it's his handwriting. Thanks

Hi it is chinese wordings indeed. This picture was supposed to be presented to a caucasian judging from the name on the right.... roughly should be " MR ROCKUS" On the left wordings are : "GENERAL CHIANG KAI SHEK PRESENTED, MING FOUNDING YEAR 1930 JANUARY 15TH" The bottom wordings are "NANJING GUANG-HWA PHOTOGRAPY STUDIO"

The year is not 1930, but 1941. He is going by the Minguo Calendar (Republic of China Calendar) that counts from 1912. So Minguo 30 is 1911+30=1941.

lol actually i edited 1941 to 1930 within few minutes of my posting to avoid direct translation confusion (and also my laziness to explain). Thanks Nick for the add on Currently i do believe Taiwan uses this type of calender. a question...seldom people in this forum knows this type of calender culture, unless you are a taiwanese or chinese? pm me to your convenience?

I am Japanese by birth, childhood in the USA, married to a German, landed immigrant of Canada, now living in Germany (ironically with my German family staying behind in Canada) because of the job. How about you? I noticed you changed your location recently from the Far East to Japan. I spend a lot of time in the TR forums and have been curious about your background as well.

              Hi
thanks (Domo arigato ) for translating picture for me. This is a large picture
about 13 inches x 17 inches. Came in big envelope addressed to INTERNATIONAL SHOE COMPANY, Manchester, NH, USA.

1941 date makes sence. I bet shoe company supplied Chinese Army with
shoes/boots or Equipment and this was thank you. (Does it say thank you
or any reason for sending it?, or just it's Chaing Kai-Skek, and Date and addressed to American?).

Thank you again for your help. ( I really thought it was Japanese at first but medal looked Chinese, Didn't realize Chinese used Mum on their swords too)

                  Perfect translation.
This photo is presented to Rocks or Rockus by Chinese Highest leader Chiang Kai Shek in 1941( the 30th year of Republic of China).

This photo is really something for collection .
Will you exchange it for something i have? I have some Japanese wwii items, including T-91, T-97, T-99 Grenades, T-99 Machine gun mags, etc.

Thank you for translation. I was just wondering as I always figured each symbol is a word and it said more. Rock/Rockus very strange name for american. HMMMMM.
I also don't need it, so if anyone else does PM me. I love Ordnance, too bad you are in China as I bet grenades (inert) would be hard to ship into USA these days. PM (private message) me if you'd like maybe we can work something out.
Thank you again. Here is picture of factory it was sent to. (CLICK ON IT TO MAKE BIGGER. International Shoe Company, Manchester, NH, USA

Just as an addition to this very interesting thread. In southern germany and parts of austria ROCHUS is a traditional first name but also used as surname. so maybe the companys director had german/austrian anchestors.

                      just my 2 cents

                      regards
