    Unknown Japanese Flag

My grandfather drove a flamethrower Sherman on Okinawa (713th Tank Battalion), and he brought back this flag. It is very thick material with metallic knots at each corner. Any ideas or identification? Thanks.

I am not sure exactly how it was used, but this is from someones wedding. I could have used it, too, because that's my family crest. The character on the other side signifies a joyous occasion.

        Nick,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I appreciate your insight and identification. Of course, I would rather have heard that it is a military unit flag or equivalent, but it is still an interesting item.
