The star looks to be a repro

This picture is from the inside of the helmet where the star is...is it repro?

The start does n' t match the helmet' s condition.

Flip over the liner to see if there is any inner small pouch in each individual liner.

Both the shell and the liner are fine. But the star is sure questionable.

Hi, Overall looks pretty good and appeaers to be an orignial unit (liner and shell). The exterior of the shell appears to have been lightly cleaned at some time to remove rust deposits. Paint that is present is original. Usually the star paint matches the shell better so it's possible the star is a replacement. Cannot tell for sure from the picture if it's original. The finish on it resembles the appearance of repro stars currently available. If it is a repro, it has been lightly aged on the surface. I would say the liner is early or of earlier quality material. Shell is large with standard shape and slope at the brim. most likely a 40-42 dated liner/helmet Hope this helps - Stu

I'm looking at the prongs of the star. Looks like it might be oikay. maybe the star was touched up or is an original but replaced.

or mashed ...it's flat as a pancake, and it's not supposed to be. At best it's messed with, and that reduces the value a lot.
