    NCO sword -- painted black

Hi. I picked this up at a rummage sale today and I was wondering if the black was period done or done by the vet? If the vet painted it he did a good job. Also this shows wear after being painted black. Also is this a mid or late NCO?

Thanks I wonder if I should try and take the paint off?

                Sword

That would depend if there was salvageable paint on the handle where it was originally painted to look like a traditional "wrapped" hilt, if its not there to any great degree then go ahead, strip it and repaint.
