    Odd Naval Cap

Any thoughts/ideas on this cap. Blue wool, lined in black silk, unmarked. Winged insignia yellow felt, hand stitched like the felt anchor of a first pattern helmet cover. Metal cherry blossum like those from naval shoulder boards applied. Leather chin strap. Plain, flat side buttons. Thanks.

Does metal blossoms prongs go through interior liner? Any markings/labels/stamps on interior? Chinstrap looks "shiney". Is it patent leather? No vent holes on this cap.Interesting.

Tha hat has no vent holes. Cherry blossum device or for that matter winged insignia patch is not sewn in thru the silk liner. The chin strap is not shiny, patent leather. Flat side buttons with typical navy style washer on the inside. 4 grommets for the back tie strap.

Apparently, in the late Shelton Yokomizu collection there is another one of these hats, same color and material, minus the metal cherry blossum on the insignia. Now there are two.
NLF Bob said he's seen a picture of aviation mechanics at a school wearing a white one stripe version with the same insignia but smaller, in black felt.
