    Weekend Bayonet find

Hello folks. Over the weekend, I stumbled across a very nice EARLY Type 30 bayonet, w/ serialized tang...187XXX block. First one of these I've ever encountered. It's housed in a later scabbard w/ rubberized canvas frog in very fine shape, appears to have come home from the war this way. Do these very early T30 bayonets bring any premium over the standard types due to their relative rarity and rate of attrition? It's a standard Tokyo (4 ball) maker marked blade.
    Thanks!

The early (not earliest) Tokyo type 30 hook guards are extremely common. End of pommel serial number most common, then serial number between grips/tang & finally the hardest to find is across crossguard.

Thanks Jareth. I'd heard this, about the cross guard S/N's being the toughest. In all the years I've collected, and the numerous Japanese bayonets I've handled, this is the first I've encountered w/ the tang S/N, so I guess rarity is a relative term at best. Fom Honeycutt's book, the highest recorded SN is in the 300XXX block. Either way, it's a nice looking rig, and the frog alone was worth the price. Thanks for your input!
