    Another Star-vent helmet

Here's another star-vent helmet for the archives. It is interesting to note that in the days these earliest Army helmets were used, they were under the weapons category and called "Tetsukabuto (Steel Armour Helmet)". Finally by Army Ordnance 2748 of April 28th 1932 did they get switched to the clothing category and the name was changed to "Tetsubo (Steel Hat)". The Navy, however, kept the helmet in the weapons category, so when Isoroku Yamamoto as Deputy Minister of the Navy wrote to the the Army's Deputy Minister on Aug 25, 1937, requesting issuance of 4000 Army helmets (with the star) for the Naval Landing Forces in Shanghai he was still referring to them as weapons and Tetsukabuto. This was at the time of the second Shanghai incident and Navy helmets were in short supply.

Very nice Nick! I'm glad I finally got to see it. An exc. example of the earliest army (pre star) helmet! Interesting that there was never a model/type designation on these early helmets
