Hello All, I need help with this old tanto I recently aquired. I know just enough about Japanese weapons to get me into trouble or keep me out of it, however the case may be. I think this may be an Edo period tanto but I'm not sure. The signiture on the tang is very faint and hard to read. The signiture on the knife is a bit better. The tanto is in full polish and has a very nice hamon and grain to it. The knife blade is in full polish as well. Both are sharp as razors. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could translate the characters for me, tell the period and a few things about it. I showed it to a friend of mine yesterday, who wanted to trade me a nice WWI 1911 for it. I've been trying to get the .45 for years but he said he would never get rid of it. That is until he saw my tanto. It threw up a red flag for me and I felt I better post this before potentially making a bad trade. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jay
