The writings on the underside of your cap goes as follows, from right column to left column :
大正十年十一月三十日除隊 (Discharged on November 30, 1921)
(Transport Corps 16-1-4)
(top row of box) 五号 (Size 5)
(bottom row of box) (Inspected at the Osaka Arsenal Branch)
(Made in 1921)
垣 (owners name : Tanimoto ?? (cannot make out his given name)
(Issued in 1921)
Sorry can't make out the oweners first name but a weird Kanji there. Perhaps Nick can help here.
A bit strange that make, issue and discharge all dates to 1921, but the cap itself is without question genuine and was definitely made in 1921.
This has got to be about the best marked hat I've ever seen! Maybe the issue date and discharge date being the same is the reason why the hat is in such good condition, he didn't have the chance to wear it to pieces like so many of these. Great pre-WWII example in any event!
This is a very nice cap. As Blinky mentioned, it has great markings which really make it. These old pattern visor service caps are not rare, but difficult to find in real nice shape.
They were replaced around 1938 with the field cap that we are all familiar with which was worn throughout ww2.
