    Japanese Field Cap

I just picked up a WW2 Japanese cap in wool, with a woven paper liner. I cannot find any markings whatsoever on the inside. The downside is the hat is missing the front star, and the two buttons that hold the chinstrap on.

It looks like there was once a metal star attached to the front. Any ideas where I could get a replacement star, and the buttons?

All of those so called "late war" shoddy caps were never intended for the Army and were for civilian or para military use only.
They never had stars and all of them that do have been added since the war.
The Army continued to be issued with the best of everything available till the end, leaving everyone else to cope with the plethora of "ersatz" material. This also applied to the Navy which was second on the list of priorities when it came to uniforms and equipment towards the end of the war.
