I think I was told that is what these are, but what grade and what period please?

They are both Meiji era. The left hand one is 5th class and the right hand is 8th class.

Thanks very much for all your help identifying my stuff for me. I think I have now posted all my medals and pins, and have found out what they are. I am not likely to find any more, since I haven't pursued the stuff for well over 20 years now. I never knew what some of it was.....just picked it up from vets when I ran across it.
