Japanese t90 Saipan

Hello everyone,
I am hoping to get your comments on this T 90 helmet captured on Saipan sometime late in the war. It appears to be standard Army issue, but has been painted black. I was told that the helmet had been painted by the Japanese soldier. I received this information from a family member of the G.I. who brought this item home. The helmet is black, some of the original paint is showing through the scuffs and scratches. The star is the original olive color, as is the interior of this piece. The liner seems to be standard. I'm hoping someone would be able to varify the fact about the black paint. The G.I. that brought this item home stated that the Japanese painted these helmets black for the purpose of camouflage. They would travel by night, or through caves and the black paint help conceal them from view. Possible?

I took down the pics I posted on that thread. They were of the aftermath from the night attack on Saipan. They were off subject so I took them down.
