    The leather knot/strap pictured does not belong on this sword. The NCO swords with the iron tsuba have an unbroken [no buckle] strap. Yours' belongs on the earlier swords with the brass tsuba. Take heart though, as the buckled types are pretty scarce and you could trade it for 2 or 3 straps of the correct type for your sword. Better idea would be to keep it and go buy one that you need.       Guys,thank you very much for the information its been really helpful.The blade has quite a few nicks in it,can these be removed? Also,any tips on where to pick up a plain sword stand?

        Don't mess with the nicks as you'll only make things worse, besides which, those nicks give it character. If you want a mint piece bide your time, one will come along. As far as the stand goes, go to the internet, type in japanese swords and you should find what you need. Jim
