    My Grandfather WWII Bringbacks

My Grandfather was with the 1st Marine Div. and saw action on Cape Gloucester ,Cape Sudest ,Papua New Guinea , Most of these bring backs were from Cape Gloucester .
Here are some photos of his collection that has been handed down to me by my Father .
Some pencils and a tooth brush

A pack of Japanese smokes (I am still thinking of having one some day lol )

This one is a strange one its some kind of stamp with some red powder

The red stone looking think must have been clay when you wet it it does come out red .

And another view of the stamp ( just below the pencils) , it also looks like they would burn one end and write with it ??

Japanese flag, note that the holes in the flag are not moth holes ( The flag is not silk but a cotton type )

Here is it translated from my friend in Japan ,

That canteen is incredible! I don't suppose it still has the original American's name or service number on it?

It's a great collection, make sure you get him to write down any details he can think of in association with them

                      Thanks Eric ,
My Grandfather died in 1998 but My Dad told me stories that when he was little my Grandfather told him NEVER go in this certain closet but my Dad did and got caught my Dad said there were about 12 grenades and a Thompson. He never saw them again Grandpa put them in the trunk of his car and they disappeared never to been seen again lol But here is a photo of the bottom of the canteen cover there is no insulation in the canteen cover and by the looks of it I dont think there ever was .
Do you think I can clean the material with out loosing the writing on it ?

That's great! I wouldn't try washing it, it's too risky the lettering would fade even more. I bet that cover has a pretty interesting story behind it, you should be able to try and research the name

The paint on the helmet is original. Can you read the number on the pad at all?
