    Trainer mortar

Here are a few shots of a trianer knee mortar. I was told the kanji translates to "Type Izawa Mortar Trainer".
Mortar is fully deactived...details on firearms thread, I posted it over there as well.

Also presented are two wooden training rounds. They are of different construction. One has a detachable metal fuze and rubber bottom. The other is all wood. I have a deactived round shown for comparison.

                      R. Blue,

I have seen training mortars before but never the (training) rounds...very nice!

                        Eric,
Were the trainer mortars "working" mortars or were they not unlike the training rifles?

                          That's a great set!
What is the difference between the training model and the combat model? I mean does it have a firing pin as well? Was it intended to actually project a shell or was it more of a "clicker" type of model?

                            R. Blue,

                            Excellent question!

I guess I would compare the training mortars that I have seen to training rifles, training bayonets, etc. that were used to train Japan's youth, para-military, etc. in weaponry.

Would they have to be demilled then?
