    Army Parade Saber

Here is a sword I recently acquired. Is it a model 1875? Also, is the handle made from horn? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

            Chris,

Your sword blade has been shortened and re-tipped incorrectly. It was probably broken and was re-ground by someone who did not know what they were doing. You will notice the blade is now much shorter than the scabbard and the tip has the wrong shape. It is difficult to tell if your grip is horn but celuloid is the normal material. The hanger is not Japanese but is from a US Army Officer sword that was imported from France.

            I hope this helps.

The decoration on the hilt shows that this is for a field grade officer, ie. major to colonel. This was a nice sword before the blade was re-ground.
