    Japanese photos

Does anybody have any pictures that Japanese soldiers took on any of these islands, Guam, Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, or Guadalcanal?

Photos taken by the Japanese while on most of these locations are very rare. I have a couple from Saipan, but I have many from the Philippines which had the biggest and longest Japanese military presence in the South Pacific.
Iwo and Tarawa are incredibly rare, in fact I dont think I have ever seen any.
I am sorry I dont have the capabilty to post some of them.
The majority of photos taken by the Japanese themselves in tropical environments that survive today are from the Philippines.

I have several that a 1st Marine Div. vet gave me. He captured a Japanese camera on Peleliu with film and had it developed. Cool photos showing a Japanese patrol (with soft caps and tropical sun flaps) walking through the jungle and others various shots. Unfortunately it's not one of the islands on your list. I have several stills showing the japanese on Iwo (officer's inspecting troops, gun crew aiming 25mm AA, etc.) and have seen several Japanese photos of troops on Tarawa (many are featured in Joe Alexander's book "Utmost Savagery").

Yes, There are some photos that appear to be on taken on Tarawa or vicinity in the book, but again these are probably some of the only ones existing. I have never seen any for sale or in private collections. One must be careful in determining where photos were actually taken. Many will prove to have been taken in a different location previous to where they were actually found. The most commonly found photos found from Pacific battlefields were personal ones taken in Japan, China or even other islands. The Japanese published many regimental histories after the war, but nearly all the photos are prewar.
Josh, may I ask why you would like to see photos from these particular islands?

I would like to see the pictures just so I can see the Japanese point of view, I see alot of US pics of guys messing around, posing, pics of dead enemies. I just wanted to see what our adversaries were seeing and get a picture of what was going through there minds. I cant really explain why I wanted to see the pictures.
