That's a very nice bronze piece. Judging by the base I would guess that it is not that old but it is really impossible to say. These types of things are still made and sold over here, although the subject matter would suggest pre-war to me.

Value, like any art craft is what you are willing to pay. I would say <$100 if I found one at a flea market 2-300 at an antique shop over here maybe.

These were popular decorative items, and are NOT militaria connected.

this could be anyware from meiji period to modern ... I'd be concerned about the shape of the bow.. as it's not the proper shape for a samurai bow that you see on eearlyer one's.. but saying that the rest of the figure looks good .. at sotheby's i've seen figures similar estimated in the region of ******163;12000 - 15000. . but these are signed examples . if your friend likes it and it doesnt cost more then he's willing to pay .. it looks ok. ..

Is it signed ? The base looks cheap and crappy ,however it does look good ,but the quality of reproductions coming from the far East would make me get a hands on and an experienced second opinion ,for all you know you can buy these bulk for $20 a piece.Rob.
