    What Sword do have here?

    Hello All,
I have a sword here that was a bring back. It was traded for a type 99 in Japan and brought back by a close relative. The overall length 35 3/4". The blade is 22". The handle is held on with 2 wood dowel pins. The handle and scabbard are wood.

    Thanks for the help Larry

          Hi,

It is a sword cane. Take the peg out and remove the handle, it might be signed.

            Thanks Bill,

I pushed the wood pin out and found no marks that I could see. The tang color was dark almost black. One pin was holding the handle on and I am quessing that the top hole in the handle was for a hanger???

              Hi Larry,

Do you mean the hole in the tang of the sword? If so it means the sword was possibly shortened. Please post pics.

                  Larry-
I have handled a number of sword canes over the years. As these were carried by old men, not necessarily samurai, the blades within are usually not something of great value. The value is in the enitre item as a trinket more than the blade being something of value.

                    Bob,
                    Thanks for the feedback

Yes, The item has more history value for me being an item that was brought back by a family member.

                    Regards,
                    Larry
