We had to use a rope to get into this cave on Mabuni Hill. They were ready for a fight. Lots of grenades.

Two US grenades found in the cave, probably picked up during their retreat to Mabuni Hill. Japanese Helmet Liner in the background.

Lots of bats in this tunnel system. Probably a supply cave due to the amount of boots and equipment pieces that came out of it.

Water well inside the supply cave. Notice the wood that came from the shoring on the sides of the walls.

My favorate find, M1 Carbine found in a abandoned concrete tomb in the jungle used by the Japanese as a pillbox then used by the Americans to rest or hide in. This was leaning up against the wall in the corner for over 60 years. You can see were the wood has been eaten away where it was on the ground and a nice black soot covered the rest of the wood on the carbine and preserved it. Probably from a member of the 77th Infantry Div as they were in the area fighting.
