    Translation needed

I was trying to figure out this depot tag I see the cap is a medium and that I think it is showa 20 Isee the charactor for 10 and the one for 2 as far as the rest I'm not sure. The other naval cap has his name stitched on the side.

    Translation ????

If, and thats a very big if, my translation is right, the name is "KOWABU". I'm assuming that it's read right to left....otherwise is reverse. Is that 12th year or 20th.......?????

In my understanding when you see the ten and two lines it means two times 10 I think that's what Mike Hewitt's book said

        One & one makes......

I think it's where the two is placed.....if the two is before the ten it's twenty. If after the ten it's twelve.....????????

            Cap

Thats a nice looking cap......with havelock threads ! The quality looks a little too good for 1945 but with army they continued to make some good stuff late in the war. Of course if it's 12th year it looks a little to good to be that old........we need to get the date right ! Eric....anyone where are you ?????

                      David,

I offer the following comments on the markings inside the Army enlisted man's cap:

                      - Main [i.e., Tokyo] Workshop For Inspection
                      - Manufactured 1937 if the Showa date is 12 (i.e., a "10" and a "2") or 1940 if the Showa date is 15 (i.e., a "10" and a "5" which could look like a faded "2")
                      - Medium size

I can not read the manufacturer or checker's stampings.

                      Eric

Eric, you've done a fine job. Yep ... Showa 12 -- definitely not a faded 5. The ovoid name stamp looks like "Suzuki" to me.

And after an hour of squinting, looking closely, looking from a distance, and trying varing combinations of kanji-parts and searching through The New Nelson's Kanji Dictionary...... I can't read the rectangular stamp!

                        Regards,
                        Guy

John, it is Kokubu. I just Googled it and found this kanji 国分 [country/section].

Banzai nice army cap. Have you noticed how scarce these have become? Used to see them (military marked army caps) on ebay & now they're gone!
