Now I do expect this will turn out to be a repro, the cap is made of wool and has a top cover made of cotton, which comes completely off.

Stampings only appear in the greener of the two.

Just a little note. although I have bought some of these items (probably the repro bits!), others actually came from the local rubbish dump, my late dad worked for the council and asked his colleagues to keep any military items!!!!! and the did!

                            So again comments welcome.

Re: The Japanese Navy Helmet cover example, odd that whoever made this based the quasi-stamping on the inside of the cover on an army design. Doubtful it's a movie prop as there would be no need for this type of "detailed" markings. The anchor is a tad on the large size being sewn thru the cover as well as the anchor being machine sewn to the backing. How did you come across this particular piece?
I can provide photo samples of the "standard" 3 types (2-piece, woven, bevo) of Naval Helmet cover insignia as a comparison if there is a desire.
NLF Bob will shortly be providing images of an original Navy Paratrooper Helmet cover (yes one does exist) once he masters a scanner/digital camera.
