Its a japanese naval dagger.

A superb example of the Japanese naval dirk! I picked one up years ago and have been searching in vain for another like you show.

Did you check the underside of the crossguard? Sometimes an anchor or japanese kanji character is present.

Where did you acquire that gem?

There not that rare I get and sell about 5 or so a year. I sold mint naval and rare Taiwanese officials one at the last SOS. The ones I like have real tanto blades in them.

Hi William,no I did'ent see any markings, It belongs to my brother in law. I did see one like it on the collector's guild site...thanks
