Unknown Japanese Helmet

Posting this for a friend. Found this Japanese civil style helmet with cover and unusual liner. States cover will only fit civilian style helmet and will not fit WWII military. Also says star is sewn onto material and not a separate patch. What the heck is this thing guys? Only photos I have for now. He states this helmet is similar to one in front left of photo which is pre WWII

The cover looks like the early repros. If it doesn't have a lining then it's that fake. Helmet is simply one of many variations of civilian style/ last ditch helmets. Best to see exterior of helmet & interior of cover for final judgment

Agree - we used to call these covers the "Basketball fakes" because the cloth construction seam pattern looks somewhat like one.

All legit, factory made cover start with the sliced up pie construction (but quality repro/fakes do to)

The inside of the basketball fakes are unlined with frayed seam edges showing. Most/all(?) come with fake ink stamped block too.

WORTHLESS TRASH (the cover) - IMO

Here's what that exact POS fake helmet cover looks like on the inside and top views, it's now Listed on the worlds biggest fee market - avoid covers like these no matter what the price!!! These have been around for at least 25 years.

The things that gets me mad is that the dopes who get stuck with these will sell their soul and lie and call them "vet buy" and such total bs after they realize they were taken!
