    Placement of Rank Insignia Question

Was it common for Japanese soldiers to sew their rank insignia on their field caps on either side below the vent holes?

    Thanks

So....this a no go? Looks like it's on a piece of material from a field cap.

Not common - but show the backside if you can to see any thread attachment pattern if its clear

It seems like this is known phenomenon, no? However, when it is seen it is only the one insignia.

It was done. Problem is now fakers are making "cutoffs" & pocket rank tabs. Without 110% iron clad veteran provenance I'd be extremely skeptical

                Advertised as "Pocket Rank Insignia"

Not good in my opinion. Doesn't know if it wants to be a cutoff or a pocket rank . If it were the later it would be shaped differently, have a pin or a button hole.

1st Lieutenant. Hmmm ... I'm not a collector; this is the first time I've seen one for an officer.

I wore a Japanese pocket rank tab when I worked with the JGSDF during exercises. But did that happen in the IJA?

Note how the modern rank (cherry blossoms) mimics the WWII rank (stars) with three blossoms/stars above/atop a single bar.
