Translation on a leather gun sight case

    Hello
This is a gun sight (I think) made by Tamaya & Co. Two questions

1 can anyone identify what type of ordnance it is for?

2 can anyone give me a translation of the writing.

    Many thanks

I sure cannot make out much. Might have to wait for Indy Rabbit.

    Here's what I can see:

    At the cap/body seam"

    (logo design) 塚田
    [logo] Tsukada (a surname)

This kanji is further repeated on the body, but in ink.

On the other side, at the seam is a kanji I cannot find. It looks similar to but is not; it comprises two radicals: (also called )and . I could not find it in the list of reformed kanji (1946) nor in a Chinese dictionary.

So you'll have to wait for a native-reader to opine.

    Cheers,

If you own it you should put up a hole lot more data if you want to really answer the "what is it" question

        1. Measurements:
2.) multiple photos ends, black metal mount, any marking, etc
3.) what pattern is in the glass reticle when you look thru it? (simple cross hair, vertical and or horizontal graduations, etc.?

What you have is a hand held sight level or transit used by surveyors and engineers. Google it and you will see lots of them. May or may not be military.

+1 Agreed - the bubble level is the give away. Also, highly unlikely to be military
