I've been looking a WW2 Danish helmet for a couple years now and picked this one up a few months back. I've found that the green/brown paint has been painted over black. There are remnants of red wave-like looking crests on both the left and right sides of the helmets that were painted over in the black coat. I seem to think there is either grey paint under there too, or it's exposed metal. I have no idea what this, but I don't think it's a Civil Defense helmet. Sorry if this is formatted wrong- first time posting here.

Unknown Danish M23 Helmet

Glud & Marstrand helmets are thicker and more heavy than civil helmets. But why it has been painted black is anybodys guess. The police used a different model the so called Amalienborg helmet with a different crest. The M23 was the easiest helmet to obtain during the war so it could had found use in a sabotage group where they painted the Danish flag or the tricolor of the resistance on the side. It could also be for celebration as mentioned.
Were they in need of police or guard helmets post war? Could be but we'll never know for sure for this specific helmet
