Help for identification technical object

Hallo,
I ask for help to identify this object without markings. Shovel / pickaxe with leather sheath and detachable wooden handle.

I have no proof but I believe this is Portuguese, probably post-WWI/1930s. I have an identical set-up that I bought in Portugal from a seller who had a pile of these. I've also seen them listed once in a while on ebay from Portuguese sellers. As of yet I have seen no pictures of them in wear.

The second set of holes, so the shovel blade and handle can be parallel, is very clever, as it deals with the main issue of the British WWi entrenching tool, which is pretty clearly the grandaddy of this model.
