Does anyone know what this is?

Hi,

A friend of mine got this with some WW2 Italian stuff but this doesn't seem to fit in. It appears to be some type of epaulette but it has no way of fixing it to a shoulder, there is no button hole. The marks on the back are glue.

Any help appreciated.

Seems like a theatre piece but obviously I could be wrong. Artillery obviously, my reason for saying theatre prop is that usually for lower end performances they make cheap uniforms for period dramas and such. I guess everyone would know that, but still I might be right.

Hi Jacky,

Thanks for that, it could be theatrical but the amount of work put into this would seem to imply it isn't, the quality of work is as good as modern wire made badges such as worn by the New Zealand defence force. If it was theatrical I would expect it to be somewhat more shoddy in terms of workmanship.

I agree that it's probably not theatrical. The crown looks vaguely Dutch or Belgian to me but I can't spot this in images of their rank insignia.
