    Looks a bit off to me, and the straps were likely replaced. The M1 helmet was the de facto standard amongst all units after 1950, with the casque Mle. 51 replacing the M1 in non-airborne units after early 1952. The rank is that of adjutant-chef, and the white/silver paint would denote some sort of cavalry or armored unit.
