Here are some more documents and medals. I'm not sure if they belong to the same man as above or not. I scanned these from a 35mm photo and I cannot read Russian. Enjoy!

The Hero of the Soviet Union (Gold Star) was awarded top the General whose photo and service records are next to it. I was able to obtain these records before Putin closed the door. Unfortunately, I have not had them translated. Any volunteers?

The Order of Lenin was not awarded to the General. The award book for it is directly below it.

The next award book goes with the Ordr of Labor Glory. The two Orders of the Patriotic War are the 1985 issue with the award books for them.

The second scan is of my Order of Suvorov 3rd class with the service records of the recipient.

Below that is an Order of Glory 2nd class again with the service records of the recipient.

In he third scan are three medals all given to the same Sargeant and his military identity book (upper left corner).

At the bottom are two Orders of the October Revolution (one with four rivets, one with five rivets) which is my favorite USSR Order,. The serial number of the Order of the Red Banner indicates it was issued during WWII.

A bit of trivia, Rick Ames, notorious traitor and Soviet mole in the CIA, was awarded the Order of the Red Banner during one of his secret trips to Moscow. I wonder what that would bring on Ebay?

Yup, I do OK with the standard military personnel records, which are always the same. (Question 11-- "Were you ever behind enemy lines---oooooo, that was the one that got ALL marked up if the answer was "da!") The obscure unit abbreviations often baffle me though--especially since your average Soviet clerk was apparently often illiterate in their OWN language.

WW2 citations taken from handwritten WW2 flimsy brown paper can be tough: I was always glad when Igor would do those and I only had to "flesh out" the bits he'd leave off like education and odd bits and pieces.

Ken can snail mail me xeroxes and will see what jumps out.

The Hero of the Soviet Union should be in that 1987 double volume of mini-biographies, which would provide a death date if he was not still living then. Never got those books myself.
