I agree that it is a variation on the Malaysian 'kris' or 'keris', and a very nice one. Hard to say from the pictures what the blade is like. Some cloe-ups of the blade would help a little, perhaps.
Many were damascus steel but metero iron sounds possible too. This one certainly looks as if it has some age. Very nice!
