Austrian World War One Medal in Box

    Hi guys,

I have had this medal for a very long time. I was wondering if someone could give me a rough market value for it. The box has a little damage to the front but is still quite clean and both the lid and base are still attached to each other.

Based on others that I have seen that do not include the box, I would have thought £45/$65/50€ at the top end. Is that a good estimate?

    Thank you in advance!

Hi Didier - thank you for that. I actually did come across that page already as well as another thread on here where a member posted some pictures of his example. I can't seem to find another boxed example that is for sale - I guess they don't appear too often (but I can't imagine that it affects that price dramatically either!).

It doesn´t have the crossed swords on the ribbon typical for this medal. I guess yours is for non combatants, or simply it was never attached to the ribbon, and gone missing.

Well spotted Adolph! I am afraid to say that I know nothing about this medal really and could not say if a non-combatant version was ever issued. I would have thought the swords went missing but I will try to do a bit of research and find if a non-combatant version does exist.

This forum is fantastic. I am so pleased I was told about it! I found some more information from another website and a thread started on here -

              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=22401

"This medal was originally created 21 December 1932. It could be bestowed upon members of any of the former wartime Central Powers upon application. In 1933 swords were added to the ribbon to distinguish combatants from noncombatants".

So either it is an early version that never had swords or it was awarded to a non-combatant.

                Hi!

A medal with ribbon and box in this condition would cost about 25 - 30 € here in Austria. For more it should be conditioned like this one...

                Kind regards, Peter
