Thanks for all the comments on the CdeG. I wasn't suggesting - though I realize now that may not be clear - that these combinations did NOT happen, but that they would be rare. I think didier proves my point. Rememer that this 'group' is presented as something brought home by a US serviceman. As such, I find it incredible in the strictest sense of that word: I don't believe it! I may well be wrong, but there it is.

The oval badge "Comite' des Fetes de la Ville de Nice" is for a member of the organizing committee of the Nice carnival. Like Mardi Gras in New Orleans, this is a major tradition and attraction for the city and dates back to the 13th century. The committee was established in 1873.

Certainly an interesting piece for a Nice collector!

I'm the latest owner of this collection. I'm trying to research it. It actually could all be from the same officer. All the foreign orders and war medals are typical for a French colonial recipient of the period. The Nice badge for the member of the 1925 Committee of Festivals is numbered so perhaps I can identify the individual through the Nice city archive. It is also interesting that the mounted ribbon bars are relative to the various elements in the grouping.

There is no way this could be an attributable group to any one person.

It is such of mis-mash of medals

For example #3, the first war bar, it is missing the key medal victory medal but part of the ribbon are still there. Also the bar suggests a rather old man for the 1914 war (1901) China medal as well as the Colonial medal is without Clasp. In such a group you would expect a Croix du combattant as well. The two medals after the CdG I do not even think are French and finally the medals are out of order.

This is just for starters.

This is a collection that someone has naively shlocked together.

That being said they all look like legit medals that could be made into a good display or at least a type collection.

Perhaps a gourp of family members (Father, Son, grandson)? As it spans from the 1890 till the 1960s

I have to agree here Paul,

I see no way for one individual to be awarded the WW1 Greek War Cross and the WW1 Romanian Commemorative Cross along with the French awards. I just don't see it here. The missing WW1 Victory Medal was probably the French version as the ribbon is of the French style, which was notorious for fraying the way we see it happening here.

Hope it wasn't presented to you as a correct grouping after the original owner had all this feedback.

As a French collector my opinion was that it is only good as dealer stock.

i personaly believe that the medals are not from one individual.
It is a collection of medals.Dont believe it is a group .
