On the Legion page my memory has been jogged by some guys with more grey cells, the Div Badge can in fact be sewn on the winter uniform, but should have the black backing.
Other than official Army unit badges in cloth (which can be surplas) basically all badges, awards and Brevets can actually be purchased either at the Regimental Foyeur or for a bigger selection at the Tailor. So a set of unnumbered wings is probably just as Legit as numbered ones although numbered are obviously more collectable.
Quite honestly, if you hand stitch a Divisional badge on, add a REP Pucelle and Fouragerre, remove the ribbons... its an ok piece. I dont see the same problems as if it was an SS jacket...
I saw some really freewheeling stuff done to uniforms... up to and including the old trick of attaching Badges on the summer tunic by melting a blob of plastic from a Q-Tip and using it to glue the badge on. an expedient used by people who were too lazy, or too late to do the sewing of the loops.
