It looks like a Papal cloak clasp.

      Didier,

I agree with Garth. I was going to suggest earlier that it looks more like a cloak clasp than a buckle. Also that the keys are commonly used in crest/badges of the Roman Catholic church. The article you posted is probably upside down. I remember seeing something similar in my collection and when I looked I found a round cloth crest with the same design. The crest is poorly made. It is 10 cm (4") in diametre. This crest came in a batch of other crest from various organizations. Some I knew and some I didn't. This is one of the ones that was unknown. It would be interesting if we could discover the exact use of this crest.

      Regards,

      Gordon

Yes Cloak clasp but not Papal it is I think an early Knights of Columbus Collar Clasp for the 4th degree.

          byterock,

I am not knowledgable in Knights Of Columbus insignia but what I find on line would tend to disagree with your comments. Here is what a search of Knights of Columbus turned up for me.

The KC emblem would be obvious. The dove and world is the Fourth Degree.

This is the emblem used by the Holy See when they are in the process of choosing a new Pope.

Like I said it is an out of date one here is a little pic I found
              ebay link

Seems it use to be the way they identified the various member of a guard today the colour of the cape determines this now

No mystery, didier. As Byterock says, its an obsolete Knights of Columbus cloak clasp.
