    Unknown Medal

    I recently got this medal in a large lot of misc. stuff accumulated by a local junk dealer. It looks fairly old, but I have no idea what country its from or what it is for. It is numbered 970 (hand engraved on the loop just above the wreath). The back says "Deus Et Libertas".
    Any help in IDing this medal would be wonderful.

      It's the membership badge of the Military Order of Foreign Wars of the United States, an organization founded in 1894 for commissioned officers with foreign war service. It's still an active organization.

      I don't believe the badges are traceable by number, but "970" dates to the WWI-era.

        Thanks for the quick response. Now the next natural question is: is there any market for such a medal? This seems to be a rather tiny veterans group (compaired to the VFW or American Legion), but would the group of collectors looking for such things be equally tiny?

          There's a market for all types of medals-but I have seen these go for between $120 and $300, depending upon who the recipient was.
